Mr. Tang Fuping, a member of standing committee of Party Committee and vice president of Ansteel Group Corporation and president of Anshan Iron and Steel Group Corporation ordered to stop 3# and 5# Coking Plants of General Coking Plant and start to demolish them, which marks that the rest six outdated coke ovens standing in Ansteel for more than half century quitted the production stage of Ansteel.
On the morning of September 10, the startup ceremony of “improving environment quality, promoting transformation and upgrading and completely washing out outdated coking capacity” was held in Ansteel. Four sets of 4m coke ovens and two sets of 5m coke ovens were completely no longer used and demolished. Mr. Tang Fuping, Mr. Yang Hua, Mr. Chen Ping and other party and governmental leaders from Ansteel Group Corporation, leaders from Anshan Iron and Steel Corporation and Liaoning Province Environment Protection Bureau and Anshan Municipal Environment Protection Bureau as well as hundreds of coking employees witnessed this historic moment.
3# and 5# Coking Plants were originally founded in 1930s and 1950s respectively. Four sets of 4m coke ovens in 3# Coking Plant were stopped forever on August 4 this year. There are four sets of 5m coke ovens in 5# Coking Plant, in which two sets of coke ovens were stopped forever and demolished in 2012 and the other two sets were no longer used in August 31 this year. After transformation and upgrading in 1980s, the eight sets of old coke ovens accumulatively produced 75.4 million tons of coke and meanwhile provided high-quality gas for Anshan citizens.
As time went by, the outdated coke ovens couldn’t meet the requirement of national environment protection policy any more. Considering sustainable development and environment protection, Ansteel decided to let the outdated coke oven quit the production stage. The stopping operation and demolishment of eight sets of outdated coke ovens in 3# and 5# Coking Plants will reduce the emission of 2230t smoke and dust, 240t SO2, 800t NOx every year and play an active role in energy-saving and emission reduction and environment protection for both Ansteel and Anshan.
A leader from Anshan Iron and Steel Corporation said Ansteel kept its promise to build beautiful Ansteel and beautiful Anshan, exercised the responsibility and mission endued by the times and showed the beautiful dream to build the ecological environment of “green mountains, clear water, blue sky and good vegetation” once again by means of demolishing outdated coke ovens.
It’s said that two modern 7m coke ovens characterized by energy saving and environment protection will replace these retired outdated coke ovens. Before the new coke ovens were put into operation, in order to make up the gap of gas supply to the citizens and coke resources to the enterprise, Ansteel carried out shutdown and maintenance of No. 11 blast furnace, restricted the gas utilization within the enterprise, increased the purchasing of coke and took other measures so as to make great efforts to ensure the normal living gas utilization of the Anshan citizens and stick to make social responsibility prevail over economic benefit of the enterprise.
