Recently, Ansteel successfully produced 9SiCr hot-rolled wide strip with the thickness of more than 3mm, the width of 1100mm and the carbon content of more than 0.9% by means of converter melting process. Through testing the composition and performance, it can fully meet the requirements of technical agreement. Now all 9SiCr hot-rolled wide strip has been delivered to the customers for trial.
As high-carbon alloyed tool steel, 9SiCr has high carbon, silicon and chromium content. Therefore, it has good hardenability, quenching capacity and tempering stability and it is mainly used for low-speed cutting tool and cold work die with complicated manufacturing shape, low deformation requirement and high wear resistance. At present, electrical furnace melting and narrow strip rolling process is generally applied to produce 9SiCr coil/sheet. Therefore, the width of 9SiCr coil/sheet in the market is not more than 500mm.
In order to meet the market demand and extend sales, the Iron and Steel Research Institute of Ansteel Group and Bayuquan Division of Angang Steel Co., Ltd. joined hands to make use of converter melting process, tackle a series of difficult problems, such as serious melting segregation of high-carbon steel, easy surface de-carbonization, high mill load and low recoiling capacity and so on, and finally successfully developed and produced 9SiCr hot-rolled wide strip with the thickness of more than 3mm, the width of 1100mm and the carbon content of 0.9%.
