On May 8, one coil of TWIP1180HR steel in the finished product storage of Hot-rolled Strip Mill of Angang Steel Co., Ltd. was ready for sending out and will be transported to a domestic well-known automotive manufacturer for punching test. What is different from before is that is the first time in the world to use converter-continuous casting-hot-rolled overall processing to produce the TWIP1180HR steel with ultra-high strength and high elongation.
Under the background of energy-saving and environment protection, light weight is the trend of development for automotive in the future. Over the past years, high-strength steel has become the first chosen material in the green development of automotive industry. Therefore, the new generation economical, advanced and high-strength steel with both strength and plasticity and higher elongation has become a research hotspot of all the steel manufacturers in the world.
Since 2015, the R&D personnel from Ansteel Group Iron and Steel Research Institute have been cooperating closely with the technicians from the General Steel-making Plant and Hot-rolled Strip Mill of Angang Steel Co., Ltd., using innovative technology of smelting, continuous casting and rolling, carrying out repeated trials and finally successfully rolled 3.5mm thick TWIP1180HR steel in Ansteel’s converter smelting-----ASP Medium and Thin Slab Continuous Casting and Directly Rolling Line at 4:58, April 25 this year. Through inspection, when the tensile strength of TWIP1180HR steel product produced in Ansteel by converter smelting reaches 1200MPa, the elongation is more than 60% and the product of tensile and elongation is more than 72000MPa%. Its performance has reached international leading level, which not only fulfills the requirement of automobile industry development, but also promotes technical upgrading of TWIP steel product for ultra-high strength automobile steel in Ansteel and plays a model and leading role in producing high-manganese steel series advanced high-strength steel in the world.
